Right 'Ho' sells himself for traffic!

Over at Right Ho!, we see just how far a once respectable blogger will stoop in order to increase his 'traffic'. First, he joins the Blogging Tories (see here); now he works a gratuitous Harry Potter reference into a title to generate hits. These surely are the blogging equivalents, respectively, of putting on the fishnets and heels and leaning into car windows. Now at last we know what the 'Ho' part means! (For a more innocent explanation, see here.)

(Of course, in broadcasting his, um, 'services', I could be accused of pimping … nah ... couldn't happen.)

Buckets -- Nicely done! You gave me a good laugh! And to quote a famous rabbit, "You realize, of course, this means war." : )

" A quick scan revealed that I am apparently the second journalist to have joined the Blogging Tories (after Grumpy Young Crank), and the first columnist. I hope this will encourage other conservative columnists/reporters to follow my lead and climb aboard."

Perhaps I should start an anon blog myself, claim I'm a journalist and join the Blogging Tories too!

Any suggestions for a name?

The Posing Ho?

Thanks Noel. I've cleaned that up.

Mark [Section 15] -- Feel free to do so, if you wish. There would be one big difference, however. You would be lying about your credentials. I'm not.

Buckets -- I threw in a rebuttal to this post earlier today. I hope you enjoy it!

Actually I think I've stumbled onto the best strategy--if you claim to be a nobody, some people will assume that you're important!

You havent exactly provided us with any credentials RightHo, other then your own word that you are a journalist.

Of course, you cant/wont, because that would reveal who you are. But, your Blogging Tory administrators who took your application would know - since I presume you had to give them background info to validate to them that you were indeed who you said you were (As Buckets did with myself and I believe one other Progressive Blogger administrator to show who he really was).

Are one of those folks prepared to come on here and back up your statements?

Scott -- Actually, none of the Blogging Tories know my identity. They didn't ask, and I'm not going to tell them. And I have no immediate plans to reveal my identity to anyone.

Hey, RH. I'll show you mine, if you show me yours! ;-)

Just for the record, I think RH is probably well-advised to stay anonymous. There are issues of professional reputation at stake. He'd open himself to all kinds of harassment. And of course his boss would be complaining that he's saving his A-material for the blog!

Buckets -- Tempting, but I'll pass for now.

That being said, it would certainly make for some interesting discussions on the 'Net, don't you think?

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Buckets. To be honest, I'm not sure if my current employer would mind what I'm doing. But I have decided not to take a chance right now.

I appreciate that people want to stay anon - I mean, look at Buckets.

But, it's a bit different when you also claim credentials...

Not that I'm really complaining. Actually, I don't care, come to think of it.

I think there's a difference, Mark.

If someone were to make an appeal to authority--"I'm an expert in area x and therefore you accept what I have to say without dispute"--then, yes, other bloggers have the choice of (1) accepting the authority, (2) ignoring the claim to authority, or (3) demanding to see the credentials.

In this case, however, RH has mentioned his 'day job' originally as an aside and then once or twice to justify his anonymity.

For me it seems that he has the choice of remaining anonymous or setting up an official blog alĂ  Paul Welles, et al. Given the headaches associated with the public blog--Andrew Coyne seems to have abandoned the idea completely--RH's decision seems perfectly appropriate.

Thank you, Buckets. You and I think alike on this issue. I think your fellow Progressive Bloggers could learn a lot from you, especially when it comes to logic and tact.

An amusing fact. Traffic did increase at my blog last week, but it wasn't due to the Harry Potter entry. Rather, it was from this particular blog entry at Bouquets of Gray! Thanks, Buckets!

Gee, that means that I was pimping! In which case, where's my share? Pay up, ho!

Not a chance, Buckets. Not a chance. : )
